Sam Ntiro (1923-93) He was among the first African students of art at Margaret Trowell Fine Art School at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. He took part in the artworkshops with other known artists from all over East Africa that took place at Kibo Art Gallery in Marangu during the time Filipo Njau was managing the gallery.....In one of these artworkshops, painters, sculpturers, and grafik artists crowded Filipo Njau's compound with a lot of artistic activities and discussions: Sam Ntiro chose to place his easel by Filipo Njau's sheep in the stable and painted them day after day,..... in his typical style and methods of using a lot of pigment on his various brushes from his palett and mixed his pigments with very little oil and turpentine....... Sam Ntiro had many art exhibtions around the world including....... prestigious galleries in London and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, U. S. A where he is also represented. Sam Ntiro served as Tanzania's High Commissiner in London, Commisioner of Culture with Tanzanian Government, and did a lot of public works in Tanzania........etcPhoto: Bo Lundberg.

Sam Ntiro (1923-93). Han var en av de första afrikanska studenterna på Margaret Trowell Fine Art School på Makerere Universitet, Kampala, Uganda. Han deltog i konstworkshops med andra kända konstnärer från hela Östafrika, som medverkade på Kibo Art Gallery i Marangu under den tid som Filipo Njau drev galleriet. Under en av dessa workshops trängdes många målare, skulptörer och grafiker på Filipo Njaus gård med olika konstaktiviteter och diskussioner. Sam Ntiro valde att placera sitt staffli i stallet bland Filipo Njaus får och målade dem dag efter dag med sin typiska stil och metod: mycket pigment blandat med väldigt lite olja och terpentin på de olika penslarna i handen med paletten, Sam Ntiro hade många konstutställningar runt om i världen, bl a på prestigefyllda gallerier i London och på Museum of Modern Art i New York, U.S.A., där han också är representerad. Sam Ntiro arbetade också som Tanzanias ambassadör i London, var chef för kulturförvaltningen i utbildningsministeriet i Tanzanias regering och utförde många offentliga arbeten i Tanzania.Foto: Bo Lundberg
